A HISTORY OF MODERN INDIA:-FROM PLASSEY TO PARTITION BY SEKHARBANDYOPADHYAY

From Plassey to Partition is an eminently readable account of the emergence of India as a nation. It covers about two hundred years of political and socio-economic turbulence. Of particular interest to the contemporary reader will be sections such as ‘Early Nationalism: Discontent and Dissension’, ‘Many Voices of a Nation’ and ‘Freedom with Partition’.

On the one hand, it converses with students of Indian history and on the other, it engages general and curious readers. Few books on this crucial period of history have captured the rhythms of India’s polyphonic nationalism as From Plassey to Partition. Review I purchased the book from a local bookseller, keeping the new UPSC mains exam pattern in mind. Needless to say, this book has raised and improved my standards of understanding and analytical approach to history.. Have already finished Bipin Chandra's "India struggle for Independence" before this.. However this book is on a completely different level than that.. This book is more mains-oriented and useful in forming analytical answers. Language and presentation is very lucid and keeps the reader interested. Although it depends on person to person, I found this book more according to my reading style and thinking.
